About
I am a self taught artist who grew up in the SF Bay Area and moved to NYC in 2022. I support myself through my career in software engineering, which has been both a source of inspiration and discontent. I feel inspired by the problem solving process when tackling open ended challenges yet it doesn’t quite fulfill my creative desires. With a foot in both the tech and art worlds, I explore questions of identity and belonging.
I create images in digital and traditional mediums, sometimes using a hybrid of the two. The exploration of the two mediums parallel my dichotomous identity as an engineer and artist. I like traditional painting mediums due to their tangible nature and how they feel like a much more honest, unedited way of expression.
On the other hand, I also like digital art due to its convenience. Traditional painting is limited by physical space and materials, while digital art has fewer of these constraints. I find that the main hurdle with digital art is actually the lack of constraint, leading to an overwhelmingly wide range of possibilities. I bridge these two worlds with a hybrid approach where a painting shifts back and forth between traditional and digital mediums. My paintings start out as a digital sketch, where numerous possibilities for which direction to head in are explored. Once that is decided, I work on the physical painting, leveraging the organic textural qualities of paint. Sometimes the final physical painting is digitally edited again to achieve the final result.
